Productivity apps for small businesses on macOS blog post header image

As a small business owner time is so important. If you're like me you're always looking for ways to streamline your workflows and boost productivity. At Add Jam we use macOS across the team and we've put our heads together to come up with a round up of some excellent apps available to help you work smarter, not harder. In this post, we'll highlight some of our favourite productivity tools, including one we developed ourselves – Attachment Bot.

Raycast - A Powerful spotlight replacement

Raycast is a supercharged alternative to macOS's built-in Spotlight search. It allows you to quickly launch apps, search for files, manage clipboard history, and even execute custom scripts. With its extensive plugin library, you can add functionality for things like managing TODOs, controlling smart home devices, and generating text snippets. Raycast is a must-have for any power user looking to speed up their workflows.

Raycast now also has some amazing AI integrations which is model agnostics with support for models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta.

1Password - Secure password management

A bare minimum for protecting your business is using strong, unique passwords for every account. Let's be realistic nobody is remembering all those passwords? That's impossible. That's where 1Password comes in. This fully-featured password manager securely stores all your logins, supports autofill in your browser, and can even generate new passwords for you. It also has support for passkeys, an emerging authentication standard, and one-time passwords (OTP) for services that require multi-factor authentication.

1Password takes the hassle out of credential management so you can focus on your business. It isn't cheap but it is good value for money.

Tuple - Screen sharing that lust works

Zoom and Teams have become the most common way to conduct video calls but if you ever need to collaborate with remote team members or clients these tools quickly feel quite limited. We've found Tuple to be a reliable screen sharing tool is indispensable.

Unlike many screen sharing apps that can be glitchy or hard to set up, Tuple just works. It offers high resolution, low latency streaming and an intuitive interface. You can easily switch who is sharing their screen, draw on the screen to point things out, and more. For remote pair programming or design reviews, Tuple can't be beat.

ImageOptim - Effortless image compression

Does your business have a website or send out marketing emails? Large image file sizes can slow down page load times and gobble up email attachment space. ImageOptim makes it a breeze to compress images without sacrificing quality. Just drag and drop your image files onto the app and it will automatically optimize them. You can adjust the compression level if needed, but typically I've found the default options strike a good balance for most use cases.

Faster websites, emails, backups and file transfers here you come!

Attachment Bot - Never lose an important email attachment again

Tired of digging through your inbox to find an important attachment? Wish you had an easy way to sort and save attachments for things like audit or tax reporting? So were we, which is why we developed Attachment Bot. Our handy app scans your email accounts (with your permission of course), pulls out all the attachments, and lets you save them to your file system. You can set up rules to automatically sort attachments by sender, date, file type, and more.

No more wasting time on attachment archaeology and no more stress if you ever have a tax audit.

Boost your productivity on macOS

I know first hand how overwhelming it can feel to manage all the moving parts of a small business but trust me, investing a time in setting up the right tools will pay off big time in the long run.

With these five tools in your toolkit, you'll be amazed at how much smoother your workday flows. Launching apps with Raycast, securely storing passwords with 1Password, collaborating seamlessly with Tuple, optimizing images with ImageOptim, and never losing another attachment with Attachment Bot - it's giving you back time to focus on other parts of your business.

Give the apps a whirl and see how much more you can accomplish.

Happy optimizing!
