At Add Jam we believe there’s something special about combining work with personal passions. For Add Jam’s Daniel, these passions are running and exceptional coffee. As 2024 drew to a close, Daniel decided to create something that would celebrate both while showcasing the vibrant culture of our home city of Glasgow.

Project overview

Great Glasgow Coffee Run emerged as more than just a website – it’s a love letter to the city’s thriving café culture and running community. The project joins our growing family of Glasgow-centric digital experiences, sitting alongside Glasgow Park Walk and Glasgow Subway Crawl. Each of these projects shares our commitment to experimenting with technical implementations while helping people explore and experience Glasgow in unique ways.

Crafting the experience

Daniel approached this project with a clear vision: create something simple yet engaging that runners and coffee enthusiasts would genuinely want to use. The result is a lightweight, performant static site built with Gatsby and TypeScript. The technical choices were deliberate – we wanted the site to load quickly and work flawlessly on mobile devices, essential for runners planning their routes or checking café details on the go.

The heart of the project lies in its carefully curated running route. Thoughtfully mapped to include some of Glasgow’s finest coffee establishments.

Our thinking with this project is moving beyond simple directions to create genuine experiences, considering factors like optimal running distances and the perfect coffee stops to break up a run.

Applying tech to Glasgow

Great Glasgow Coffee Run is part of something bigger. It builds upon our growing collection of projects celebrating Glasgow’s unique character. From the peaceful paths of Glasgow Park Walk to the urban adventures of Glasgow Subway Crawl, and our community-focused One Walk a Day initiative, each project adds a new dimension to experiencing our city.

Community impact

With the launch of Great Glasgow Coffee Run we have a vision of there being an NC500-like experience for active individuals inGlasgow. In doing so we can celebrate local businesses, promotes active lifestyles, and brings communities together.

The success of Great Glasgow Coffee Run reinforces our belief in creating purposeful digital products that enhance community experiences. It demonstrates how thoughtful technology can bring people together, support local businesses, and make our city more enjoyable for everyone.
